Following an appeal presented by WWF and Animalisti Italiani, TAR Abruzzo (Regional Administrative Court) has confirmed its decree that suspends the hunting season in the bear area, that is in the buffer zone of Abruzzo NP (ZPE), in all the sites belonging to Natura 2000 network (ZPS and SIC) and in all the areas where the bear presence has been verified, according to the cartography provided by PATOM.
This is a really important measure for the conservation of the Marsican bear, coming after a long debate regarding the regional hunting schedule for 2012/2013 and following a hard drought season that has fatigued wildlife across Abruzzo mountains.
Alderman Mauro Febbo has declared that Regione Abruzzo will appeal to State Council against this suspension decree.
