After a week of patrolling, the staff of the Abruzzo Lazio and Molise National Park, the Majella National Park, the Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Reserve and the Forestry Carabinieri believe that the bear cub, whose mother was run over and killed on the night of December 24, took refuge in a den, because of the freezing temperature in the Castel di Sangro area in recent days. On the afternoon of December 27, the cub returned to the incident site and was grazed by a car that was running at moderate speed, apparently leaving it unharmed. We hope that the winter rest will erase from its memory the tragedies it experienced, but not the fear of that road which will still be there when it awakens.
