The project, which will last 5 years, will consist of the creation of 18 Bear Smart Communities, 16 in the Central Apennines and 2 in Greece.The main goal is the restoration of the natural environment in expanding bears’ habitat through actions such as pruning, collection of barbed wire, safety of the tanks and much more.
The project is the combination of all the actions we have been doing since SLO’s foundation, will give us the opportunity to work on a larger scale and to share and exchange the knowledge with our Italian and Greek partners. Bear-Smart Corridors keywords are: people, coexistence, bear and collaboration.
Thanks to the synergy with Rewilding Europe, coordinating beneficiary, Rewilding Apennines, Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, Municipality of Pettorano sul Gizio and Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Nature Reserve, we will bring forward something that the Central Apennines have never seen before: a real, great coordination action which facilitates coexistence with the bear and favors its expansion in the Central Apennines.
