We have published a new volume by Gaetano de Persiis, dedicated to the Marsican bear: “The Bear of the Apennines. What future?”.
After “Ernico, Story of a bear from the Apennines”, this time Gaetano dedicates his work not to a single bear, but to the remaining population of Apennine bears. They continue to remain at high-risk of extinction due to a series of problems which are known to all and unfortunately remain unresolved.
Of great interest are the contributions of Professors Marco Bonapace and Stefano Civitarese, who examine in detail the genomic history of the Marsican bear and the effectiveness of the PATOM in its merits and evident limits. The action of the 3 Regions most affected by the presence of the bear is also taken into consideration, highlighting shortcomings, but also some recent progress.
Two hundred pages full of photographs, mostly unpublished, of bears taken in their natural environment and an interesting collection of scientific and historical data complete a volume whose sale will help our association’s effort to conserve the species.
The cost of the volume is 30 Euros + 7 Euros for shipping if you cannot collect it in person.
