In the spring nights of rain, you often meet toads on the roads. They move slowly, looking for pool of water in which reproduce. However, many individuals are killed during migration from wintering sites to pool of water.
Migrations, which start already from the end of February and last for several weeks, are like a Russian roulette because of the cars. The road traffic and the habitat’s fragmentation are among the main threats to the conservation of the common toad (Bufo bufo).
His population trend is declining. It is also for this amphibian that Salviamo l’Orso carries “Drop by Drop”: this project, financed by Eoca Conservatione, aims to restore the water sources to protect biodiversity.
In spring nights, please drive carefully and pay attention to the presence of toads on the asphalt!
