Bears spend most of their time looking for food. When they find an abundant and palatable source of food, they do not leave it as long as it is available

In the worldnatureconservationday, the video “The Bear and the Apple Tree”, made with a camera trap and edited by Francesco Ferreri, shows the successful results of a project aiming at improving the habitat of bears. It was conducted in the Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Nature Reserve, for the BearSmartCommunityGenzana. Thanks to the commitment of volunteers from Salviamo l’Orso, the staff from Rewilding Apennines and the Reserve, and thanks to the financial support of EOCA – European Outdoor Conservation Association –, in recent years many abandoned fruit trees in the mountain have been pruned. In the autumn of 2019, many of these trees, mostly apple trees, have started to produce more fruit, guaranteeing availability of food for bears and other wild animals.
