The proposal to hold a motorally on April 29 and 30 in the Special Area of Conservation “Abruzzo National Park” and in most of the contiguous area, which had aroused the protest of the associations Salviamo l’Orso, Stazione Ornitologica Abruzzese ONLUS, LIPU, Altura Association, and Associazione per la Tutela degli Uccelli Rapaci e dei Loro Ambienti, has been rejected thanks to the negative opinions of the Park Authority and the Abruzzo Region.
This is news that cheers us up: the tender would, in fact, have been in blatant conflict with the Patom – action plan for the protection of the Marsican bear – and with the EU directives that prohibit the disturbance of protected species, all the more so within Natura 2000 sites.
We thank the Park and the Region for reiterating that the environmental value of the territories that would be crossed by the motorally is far greater than any apparent economic benefit of the event.
