A group of highly motivated volunteers from all over Italy and Europe participated to the first pruning weekend for the project “Let’s take action for the bear”, sponsored by EOCA. The volunteers, supervised by the staff of Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Nature Reserve, pruned and freed from antagonistic species 48 fruit trees, especially apple and cherry trees, in an area of high naturalistic value of Pettorano sul Gizio.
According to EACO spirit, this initiative combined a conservation action, aimed at increasing food resources for wildlife, especially for the Marsican bear, with an outdoor activity such as hiking, which was necessary to reach the intervention area. We thank all the participants, the association Dalla parte dell’Orso for its contribution, the community of Pettorano sul Gizio for the warm welcome and the staff of the Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Reserve for their technical and logistical support.
