The abandoned orchards of the Monte Genzana Reserve return to production

25 Settembre 2018 | Non categorizzato

With our great satisfaction, the apple trees pruned last spring in the territory of the Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Nature Reserve have borne fruit. The recovery of abandoned orchards in natural areas aims at increasing the availability of food resources for the Marsican bear outside urban areas and reduce conflicts with rural activities. This action complements the best practices of coexistence with the species included in the Genzana Bear Smart Community guidelines. It was realized thanks to the dedication of the volunteers of Salviamo l’Orso and Dalla parte dell’Orso, to the active collaboration with the Monte Genzana Reserve and the funds received from Patagonia & Tides in 2017 and EOCA in 2018, respectively for the projects “Wildlife corridors” and ” Let’s take action for the Bear”. We thank the Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Reserve for its profuse efforts and competent scientific supervision.
