On April 19, we were guests at the Center for Italian Studies at Stony Brook University in New York City, where our own Serena Frau presented actions for the conservation of the Marsican brown bear and Salviamo l’Orso’s internship and volunteer programs to an audience of students and citizens.
Professor Paolo Ciucci of the Department of Environmental Biology at La Sapienza University and internationally renowned wildlife photographer Bruno D’Amicis Wildlife Photography enriched the program with very interesting talks, the former on the biology and threats endangering the survival of the Apennine’s small bear population, and the latter with unique images of this splendid animal and its habitat.
We sincerely thank all participants and Stony Brook University for organizing and sponsoring this event, especially Professor Roger Thompson, author of the Marsican bear book No Word for Wilderness, for his tireless support of the cause of Marsican brown bear conservation.
