On Monday, June 17, at 9:30 PM, in Avezzano, at Piazza Risorgimento Arena Mazzini, Terre dell’Orso, the documentary by Salviamo l’Orso and Treehouse Films, was awarded!
Our filmmaker friend Constantinos Christou from Cyprus, the author of the documentary, accepted the special audience mention prize during the opening day of the 2024 Cinema Ambiente Avezzano edition.
The joy of winning was mixed with sadness over the premature and tragic passing of Martin Hellicar, the director of Birdlife Cyprus and the English voice of the documentary.
Filmmaker Constantinos Christou, who received the special audience mention prize, stated: “I would like to thank everyone who contributed to making this documentary possible and the festival for sharing it with the audience. In my opinion, this award is the most important at a film festival because it concerns the film that touched the most hearts. We make documentaries to promote change, raise awareness, and show the beauty of nature. With that said, I would like to dedicate this award to a dear friend who is no longer with us, although he had much more to give. His name is Martin Hellicar, director of Birdlife Cyprus, a person who fought hard for nature conservation in Cyprus, a fun, charming person, and most importantly, a good friend. Fortunately, he was the narrator of our documentary. Rest in peace, Martin. This award is for you!”
